Every year, since 2019, Arigatou International launches its Internship Program for children of the GNRC (aged 14 to 18) to integrate the GNRC Children’s Committee for the Promotion and Realization of the Rights of the Child (the group was initially called Youth Committee).

The Committee provides support and inputs to processes, campaigns, and actions related to children’s safeguarding, participation, and empowerment within Arigatou International’s initiatives.

Together with their local GNRC groups, the children are also involved in local projects for the promotion and protection of the rights of children, ending violence against children, finding peaceful solutions to conflicts in their communities, and overall building of a better world together.

Every year, the members of the GNRC Children’s Committee have a specific theme to guide their actions towards the promotion of the rights of children. In 2021, the new GNRC Children’s Committee will be involved in raising awareness about the multidimensional impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the lives of children and in identifying and developing actions to help address these challenges.

GNRC Youth Committee 2020

The theme that inspired the work of the GNRC Youth Committee 2020 was “cyber-care”, or safe practices for children while they navigate on the internet. The members went through a capacity building program on the concepts and principles of child rights, and they built more knowledge and skills on how to lead activities with their peers and how to mobilize them. During their experience as members of the Youth Committee, they engaged in a series of activities to raise awareness and promote online safety worldwide.

GNRC Youth Committee 2019

In 2019, the GNRC Youth Committee carried out several local activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The four members of the committee visited schools, organized contests, art workshops, gatherings, and talks to advocate and raise awareness among local children about their rights.

The members also contributed to the development of a new microsite within Arigatou International’s website named “All for Children” that was launched as part of the commemorations for the anniversary of the CRC. The microsite aims to share experiences and knowledge about children’s safeguarding, participation, and empowerment.
