Arigatou International welcomes the launch of the OHCHR anti-discrimination database that aims at supporting the international combat against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
During the 24th Session of the Human Rights Council, a side event to launch the Anti-Discrimination Database was held on the 11th of September. The launch was organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The session was introduced by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Navi Pillay. She stated the importance of the database, containing more than 1500 documents from more than 90 countries, as a crucial element in helping operationalize anti-discrimination measures by providing more specialized documentation. This database is in line with the anti-discrimination programme launched by the UNHCR, and has the objective of enabling the replication of good practices and empowerment with knowledge, wherever the issues of racism, xenophobia and discrimination are raised.
The database will act as a national and international platform on the subjects and it aims to provide information on current measures, assist governments, the judiciary system and civil society, and serve as reference for Human Rights mechanisms.
Whilst the Database has general focus on policy measures, it also includes institutional measures at several levels and on particular thematic areas. Therefore, Arigatou International is interested to use the database as a mean for dissemination of Arigatou International’s work and to learn and keep track of practices and existing measures that are being undertaken in other parts of the world by different actors to protect children and youth and promote anti-discrimination activities. We invite our partners to learn more about the database and use it to disseminate good practices.
English is used throughout the database. When available, official texts are included in their original language, including French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, etc.
